Makeup Brush Cleaning Tips

Since most of us love makeup, we have makeup brushes that need to be cleaned! It's important to clean your brushes for health reasons as well as to avoid mixing colors too much-bacteria can grow on your makeup brushes. I personally clean mine every 1-2 weeks, although I try to do it once a week.
Some companies like MAC and Sephora (among others) sell a bottled brush cleaner.

These work well to clean brushes, but I have a few tips that are less expensive and also I think clean the brushes better.

For eye makeup brushes that have a liquid eyeliner on them...
...like a MAC 266 brush that is used for MAC Fluidline gel liquid eyeliner, the makeup can dry or become a waxy consistency on the brush. For brushes like this, start with olive oil.
Pour a small amount onto a paper towel and work the olive oil into the brush (the olive oil loosens the waxy dried liquid liner off the brush). Rinse with water, then get another piece of paper towel and dampen it. Put a small amount of Johnson and Johnson's baby shampoo (or any other kind of baby shampoo or gentle hand or dish soap) onto the paper towel, and work the soap into the bristles. Rinse with warm water until the water runs clear and there is no more makeup left on the brush. You may have to repeat the baby shampoo steps once or twice to get all the makeup off.
For brushes used for eye shadow, blush, bronzer, etc., follow the same procedure for the eye liquid liner brushes, eliminating the olive oil step. Reshape your brushes after rinsing out the shampoo and air dry.

Speaking of makeup, I'm going to get a few items from the MAC To the Beach Collection this weekend! I'll let y'all know what I think about them!

Later y'all!

  2. I always use the Bare Escentuals brush cleaner but it really doesn't seem to be worth the money. I'm going to try baby shampoo when I run out. Thanks so much for the tips girl!! :)
