SATC2, Weekend Update!

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a few days! It's been a busy weekend!
On Thursday I went to see Sex and the City 2!
Here we are (Kari, Liza, me) dressed up and ready to head to the theater!
At the theater with Mary Catherine!
There have been tons of mixed reviews on the movie. My personal opinion-I definitely liked the movie and will probably see it again and buy it when it comes out on DVD. I did think the girls "weren't themselves" though...they seemed a little awkward and not quite in character. And Miranda's dress for the wedding!! Scandalous! I did think Samantha was hilarious though!

My favorite quotes from the movie:
Charlotte: How are you going to swallow all those? [Samantha's pills]
Samantha: Have we met?

Samantha: We made a deal ages ago. Men, babies, it doesn't matter. We're soulmates.

This weekend I went to Camp with Kari! We drove down Friday afternoon and came back to Starkville on Sunday! We had a lot of fun swimming, working on our tans, riding 4 wheelers, playing card games and hanging out and eating great food!
Here's Kari with children's swimmies on!
On the 4 wheeler! We are thinking about bringing a group of friends down to camp for my birthday! That would be a lot of fun!

Later this week I'm heading up north to Rhode Island to visit this lovely lady:
Amanda! I can't wait to see her I haven't seen her since December! Way too long! I'm sure I'll have some great pictures and stories to share with y'all next week!

And last but definitely not least...Happy Memorial Day! As Zac Brown Band says, "I thank God for my life, and for the stars and stripes, may freedom forever fly, let it ring. Salute the ones who died, and the ones that gave their lives, so we don't have to sacrifice, all the things we love..." Thanks to all the veterans and the active military overseas serving our country!

Later y'all!

Getting Carried Away and Blog Awards!

Hi everyone! So today is the big day of Sex and the City 2!
I can't wait to go see these girls tonight!

I originally had planned a fabulous outfit of a black dress with a pink sash, pink makeup and nails, and pink pumps. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the perfect pair of pink pumps in time (and Starkville doesn't exactly have a ton of shopping options)...so I had to come up with a backup plan.
I decided on this dress from JCrew, which I got a few months ago from my mom and love! It's light too, and since it's real hot in Mississippi right now it's a good choice. It's not quite as dressed up as I wanted to get, but I'm wearing this dress with some bronze metallic colored wedge sandals I got from Ann Taylor Loft and a clutch that matches the shoes. My nails are still pink! And I'll do something fun with my hair and makeup. I'll also be accessorizing with one of these...
...a Sex and the City classic cosmopolitan! These drinks are just as much a part of the show as the fashion!
Carrie: Hi, I'd like a cheeseburger, please, large fries and a cosmopolitan.

Miranda: Why did we ever stop drinking these?
Carrie: Because everyone else started.

I'm also really excited to have gotten two more blog awards this week!

First, thank you to Jess from Polka Dots, Pearls, and Pink Oh My! Her blog is super cute and thank you for thinking of me!
I'm going to pass this award on to:
4. Christa at According to Christa

And second I'd like to thank Miss Southern Prep for this award! Go check out her blog it's adorable! Thanks for thinking of me!
The rules for this award are to tell everyone where you will be in ten years and then pass the award along.

In ten years, I will be almost 33 (dang!), done with school by then, whether it's stopping next May with my master's or going on further, hopefully married with one or two children, employed as a chemical engineer with fabulous shoes, and living somewhere near the beach in the south!

I pass this award on to:
1. Sarah Beth at Dixie Gator Gal
2. Jules at Chic and Pink

SATC2 Countdown Quotes: 0 Days!! It's here!!
Carrie: A squirrel is just a rat with a cuter outfit!

Enjoy the movie and don't have too many cosmopolitans!!
Later y'all!

Day 2 of SATC2 Week: My Favorite Outfits and a Blog Award!

Since the opening of Sex and the City 2 is on everyone's mind, I thought I would look back over the seasons and the first movie and pick out some of my favorite outfits that the girls wear. Carrie is the most popular fashion icon, but I have to say I do favor Charlotte's looks...they are much more my style. I tried to pick out at least one outfit for each girl!

Carrie:
Carrie's style is typically a little too bohemian-mismatched for me, but I do love some of her staple items in the show.
I love this dress from the first movie. It's so fabulous Carrie hardly needs any accessories to go with it.
This is the Halston Heritage dress Carrie wears in the second movie. I feel like this dress could go anywhere, from a beach coverup to lunch with some cute flats or dressed up like Carrie wears it. I would love to have this dress!
Carrie's wedding gown is amazing (I'm not a huge fan of the bird, but I do like the pop of color). It made her look classy and elegant with the princess feeling every girl wants on their wedding day.
Also from the first movie...I just love her jacket here, and how she mixes and matches patterns but sticks with the green.
From "An American Girl in Paris, Part Deux". I love how she has a "tutu" style dress for an adult! Just gorgeous.

Samantha:
Samantha is sassy and still classy. In the series, I loved her bolder business looks. I wish I could have found more pictures of her fabulous outfits!
I love the pink power suit with the little details like the big buttons and the gold jewelry. And typical to Samantha, she still has her sex appeal factor with the low cut top underneath.
I love Samantha in this little black dress. Its sexy, classy, she looks fabulous.

Miranda:
In the series, Miranda started off as a little masculine with really short hair and structured suits. Towards the end, her clothing was a little more feminine and her haircut was cute and trendy. By the movie-her clothes were amazing!
This is professional and at the same time classic and girly. Love the dress and especially the red coat.
From the first movie-Miranda looks really pretty and put together and I love her accessories and style!

Charlotte:
Charlotte is the character I'm most similar to, so it is no surprise that I absolutely love her style. She is classic, tailored, feminine, and glamorous.
I would kill for this coat. Perfect length and shape. The only problem is around Starkville, I might be mistaken for an Alabama fan if I wore houndstooth!
This look is really feminine and classy. She looks great!
After Charlotte lost her baby, Elizabeth Taylor's story inspired her to get out and over to Brady's first birthday party. This dress is killer and I love the sunglasses.
One of my most favorite of Charlotte's dresses. I love the cut and the shape of the dress with the green right at the top. I wish I could have this dress-it would go well with my green eyes! And of course I love her pearls! So classy!
Definitely my favorite Charlotte outfit. I just fell in love with this dress. It is a great timeless style that could go from day to night with a swap of accessories. I love her bag and sunglasses too!
I love this picture, especially Charlotte's tasteful strapless dress with the great floral pattern and Miranda's belted bold dress. Carrie's dress isn't quite my taste, but I do like the colors she is wearing and of course-her shoes!
One of the promotional pictures for the second movie. All four of them look amazing in this picture and their red outfit matches their personality! I most love Charlotte's style dress (no surprise there) but I love how all of them look so happy and how great their dresses look on them!

SATC2 Countdown Quotes: 3 days (or is it 2?):
Charlotte (on Carrie's flying trapeze experience): I could never! I have the most terrible fear of heights!
Carrie: Well, I do not...you've seen my shoes.

My First Blog Award!:
First, I want to say thank you to Same Sweet Girl: Memoir of a Southern Belle for giving me my first blog award! I was very excited! It was so sweet of you to think of me! Y'all go check out her blog!

The Carrie Diaries

Happy Monday!
So I wrote last night that over the weekend I finally finished The Carrie Diaries, which is the prequel to Sex and the City. Overall, I did really like the book, but there were a few things that I thought were lacking...

First, the book started off a little slow. It was hard to get into, in the same way I thought the first Sex and the City book started off slow. It could just be the author's style. Second, there were some major elements of the book that completely contradicted the show. For example, Carrie's father is a major character in the book, where in the show she says her father left her and her mother. This statement also suggests she had no siblings, but in this book she has two sisters who also play a fairly large role. Another minor contradiction was that Carrie says on the show that she lost her virginity in 11th grade, but in The Carrie Diaries she is a senior and still a virgin. Also, y'all remember her high school boyfriend Jeremy that is in a mental health facility in the series...well there is no mention of him in this book. Personality-wise, I can definitely imagine this Carrie in the book growing up to be the Carrie on the show...if you put the contradictions aside. The book follows her through her senior year of high school and how she developed as a writer. I know this book is supposed to be a prequel to the Carrie Bradshaw from the first Sex and the City book and not necessarily the character Carrie Bradshaw on the show, but in light of the amazing success of the series, the first movie, and the upcoming second movie, I was really hoping Candace Bushnell would portray Carrie as more of the Carrie Bradshaw from the series. Overall, I did like the book, and loved the ending (I won't spoil it for anyone!), and would suggest it for summer reading, but unfortunately I think there will be a lot of disappointed readers who are expecting the Carrie Bradshaw we all know and love. So if you are okay with knowing the Carrie in the The Carrie Diaries isn't exactly the Carrie from the series, then I think you would enjoy it!

SATC2 Countdown Quotes: 4 DAYS!!!
Carrie: "Honey, if it hurts so much, why are we going shopping?"
Samantha: "I have a broken toe, not a broken spirit."

Quick Weekend Update

I had a very relaxing weekend. Saturday I went for a run in the morning, layed out by the pool (and got a bit red!) all Saturday afternoon with Kari, and walked/ran again in the evening. I also made some fabulous fajitas for supper! Today, I did a ton of laundry (not fun at all), attempted to run but it turned into a walk because of the insane heat and humidity, and finished The Carrie Diaries...
...which I will be blogging about tomorrow for the start of Sex and the City 2 Week!! I've been watching Sex and the City and the first movie all weekend (and every other day of my life haha) to get ready for this Thursday! I'll be seeing the movie with Liza and Kari, and again in a couple weekends with Amanda!!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday night and I'll talk to y'all tomorrow!

Later y'all!

What Happens in Starkvegas, Stays in Starkvegas

After reading Tale of a GRITS blog today, I thought it was a really cute idea to talk about your town. While I'm not from Starkville, Mississippi, I currently live here and go to school here, so here goes!

Starkville, Mississippi, affectionately called "Starkvegas" by locals/students, is a city in Oktibbeha county in Northeast Mississippi and home to Mississippi State University. Historically, Starkville was first inhabited 2100 years ago, and in 1830 the Choctaw indians surrendered their claims to the land, and the early settlement of Starkville was started.
A Starkville version of the Las Vegas sign!
Where Starkville is located in Mississippi.

Starkville is a great place to be a college student. There are many festivals throughout the year, such as Magnolia Film Festival, Old Main Music Festival in the Cotton District (Part of Super Bulldog Weekend), Johnny Cash Flower Pickin' Festival, and Bulldog Bash, among others. Starkville also has some great food, from good old Southern barbeque to hibachi and Peruvian food.
This is my favorite restaurant. Ever. Grumpy's is Southern style home cooking and has a blue plate special around lunchtime and great catfish and drink specials. The best part about Grumpy's is its covered patio and huge 9 x 12 foot "Grumpytron" where sports is being played. Great for football, basketball, and baseball season!
Little Dooey's is the best place in Mississippi to get barbeque. According to Fox Sportsnet Boys, "Little Dooey's is the best food in the SEC!" Little Dooey's has also fed Charlie Daniels, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreet, Garth Brooks, Alabama, among many others. It has also been featured on Food Network's "The Best of..." I also love Little Dooey's outdoor patio during the summer months!
Above is the Cotton District, in "Downtown" Starkville, which has tons of cute boutiques as well as great places to eat and drink. My personal favorites-Mugshots, Bin 612, and Tabs (used to be Up Your Alley). Also the site of the Old Main Music Festival, and lots of activities during Bulldog Bash and Super Bulldog Weekend.

And of course, the main attraction of Starkvegas, Mississippi State.
Mississippi State is the largest university in Mississippi with an enrollment of 18, 601. Our colors are maroon and white, and our mascot is the bulldog (more common spelling in Starkville is bulldawg or dawgs).
Here is a picture of Tonka (left) and Champ (right) on September 5, 2009, when Champ was debuted as the new live mascot, "Bully".
Mississippi State makes its own cheese, muscadine juice, and ice cream at the MAFES Salesstore. My favorite is muscadine ripple!
Here is the celebration with Dan Mullen after State won the Egg Bowl in 2009! Such an exciting game! Hey Rebs! We just beat the hell outta you!
Davis Wade Stadium at sunset in October.
Tailgating in the Junction!
The very anatomically correct bulldog statue.
Here you can see the bulldog statue, the Junction, and the Stadium on game day!
Inside the Stadium waiting for the game to start!

Here I am with my cowbell, another great State tradition!
This tradition began after a jersey cow wandered onto the football field in the middle of a game in the early 1900s. State won the game, and cow became a symbol of good luck. The cow was eventually replaced with a cowbell, and the handle is used for easy ringing. State fans ring their cowbells loud and proud at sporting events...despite the SEC's ban of "artificial noise makers." Personally, my arm hurts so bad after ringing my cowbell all football game, there is nothing "artificial" about it.
I decorated it myself!
State pride doesn't stop at just cowbells and tee shirts...we even carved Bully into our Halloween pumpkins!

And to get y'all in the mood for football season:

Hope y'all enjoyed your trip through Starkville! Come visit and Go Dawgs!

P.S....I am a born and raised Gators fan...but I do love State!
