Incredibly Torn

So...I got a job offer. I should be ecstatic right? I enjoyed the interview and the people I met were really nice. They gave me nothing but positive feedback and seem excited to make the offer.
Which is good.
I however, do not want to live in the middle of nowhere.
Or have a long commute if I decided to live somewhere with more...development.
The job environment isn't what I pictured working in.
My professional interests have led me to wanting an MBA after I'm done with my masters in August. However...I have no work experience. Would a company want to hire someone with 2 masters degrees, a bachelors degree and no work experience?

Now what.

Do I stay in Starkville for another year and get an MBA. Be much happier in Starkville's environment, but risk going into more debt?

Or do I take a job halfheartedly, in an awful location, have to drive hours to see anyone I care about? Start over again? Alone.

I know the economy is bad. I sound like a selfish brat. But I literally cried when I got the offer. And not tears of joy.

  1. The academic advisor in me is telling you to take this job (or hold out for another one like it if you can) and then go back for your MBA in a few years.

While I agree that engineering master's (or majors) really do need a business degree to get to management level - see if a future company will pay you to do it after you put a few years with them.

Good luck girl, I know it will work out!

Or just move back to Gainesville with us :)

  2. what was your interview for?
are you applying to other jobs in more 'developed' areas?
if this job is not going to make you happy, then you're probably going to look back in a year or so and wish you had gotten your MBA or gotten a job some where else...

  3. You have to do what makes you happy. Period. Just pray about it and whatever you choose to do, I'm sure God has something spectacular planned for you. And the best part is, even if you don't like what you choose, you're still young and can bounce back quickly! Good luck!

  4. I know the feeling of that... I was in the same dilemma (in some ways) a few years ago. I was deciding just between moving somewhere to take a job I only half wanted, and staying close to family and doing something else. In the end... I chose to do what makes me happy - and that is the people I love. My sister had a baby, I got married... so many things happened that I may have missed if I moved away. You are NOT a spoiled brat at all... you are just trying to do what is best for you! And you will figure it out!!

  6. It's hard to make decisions like that but hopefully you do whatever you feel is right.

  7. Oh no! Where is the job at to be so isolated?! I wish I had some crazy awesome advice or a magic ball with the perfect answer. But, I don't! :( Just do what you FEEL is best for YOU! Whatever makes you happy! Because being isolated from family and friends and feeling alone, does play with your mind and then you will despise your job because you will feel it is why you are feeling the way you are! Good luck!

  8. I have to say that you will get SOOO much more out of an MBA by working a few years first. In addition where ever you work could/should pay for it all or a significant portion. No need to pay for it yourself and/or go into debt. I also know it seems like everyone is all in one place now, but friends scatter more and more and more. Keep looking/interviewing and praying. When it is right, you will know. I's sure that staying in Starkville feels the safest, but life is all about taking chances! Best of luck!
